ABOUT THE MAKER:  Wilhelm Bauer (23 December 1822 – 20 June 1875) was a Bavarian Inventor and engineer. Wilhelm Bauer was born in Dillingen in the Kingdom of Bavaria (Germany). His father was a sergeant of a Bavarian cavalry regiment. Because of this, Wilhelm Bauer, after an apprenticeship as a wood turner, also joined the army. He went on build several hand-powered submarines and became known as the FIRST submarine builder for his 'The Brandtaucher' (Incendiary Diver), a submersible boat.
